WAVE CONDITION
The surf conditions in Indonesia are the best in the world and Mentawai is a magical place due to the different kinds of waves, light winds and consistent swells.
The Mentawai islands are surfable all year round but the best conditions are from April through October, when waves are 2-4 meters high. From November to Mars waves are smaller, 1-2 meters high.
SPOT
The Hole: in the South coast of Pagai Selatan Island. It’s a thick lefthander that throw wide barrels.
Maccaronis: in the West coast of Pagai Utara Island. It’s a machine wave that barrels from the take off and ends with a long, extremely workable wall. Very consistent and holds onshore winds.
Thunders: in the West coast of Pagai Selatan Island. This spot picks lots of swell and become a great option when everywhere else is small. Heavy left with barrel sections.
Hollow Trees/Lances right: one of the fastest, more perfect and consistent waves of Mentawai. It’s in the South-West coast of Sipura Island, in the North of Pagai Utara and Pagai Selatan Islands. If the wind switches you will surf Lances left around the corner of Bintang.
Telescope: in the North-West coast of Sipura Island. It is a long, workable left with several barrels sections. It needs a bit of swell to work. There are other waves around like Scarcross, Iceland, Arik, …
Playgrounds: in the South coast of Siberut Island, the northern island of Mentawai. You can find many kinds of different waves for the different surf conditions and surfers level.
